My Final Front Cover

For my front cover I changed the colour of the puff and the writing inside the puff.I think this fitted with the colour scheme so much better as the light red/pink puff was quite a random colour and most people thought that I should change it to fit in more.

Final Double Page Spread

This is the my final double page spread. After putting up my design with the puff I received feedback from other people and 16/20 people decided that it would look better with just a quote in the middle of the page rather than the red puff so I have just used moved the quote into the text and wrapped the text around it. I have also added the pictures on the top right hand corner to show pictures from the photoshoot. I liked the banner design and people preferred that rather than just pictures along the top which I also tried.

Double Page Spread Puff

I attempted to put a circular puff into my double page spread and didn't like how it looked so I think I will remove it.

Making My Double Page Spread

This is the start of me creating my double page spread. I have edited the picture to create a different effect and I have made the background on the left wider so it covers the whole of the page.
It doesn't follow the conventions of a lot of other music magazines but I think this design gives it a sense of individuality and show the difference in artists it contains.

Puff In Interview

During my research for my double page spread I came across this design of a puff in the middle of the interview with a quote from the page and I really liked the design and how the writing has been made to wrap around it. I would like to incorporate this design for my magazine.

Contents' Page Feedback

1st persons’ feedback:

‘I really like the simple layout and design of your contents page as it doesn’t follow the conventions of a normal magazine which gives it individuality. I also really like how you have followed the idea of the red title from your front cover as it keeps it all linked and keeps it consistent and makes it look professional. I really like the way you’ve also incorporated the blue colour from the front cover onto the contents page and it highlights the different points in the page names which will get the audience wanting to read on. You need to check your page numbers and possibly add a few more pages around the page and space out your pages slightly more so you will have around 35 pages for a weekly magazine.’

2nd persons’ feedback:

‘I think you have made good use of your images and I really like how you have created a transparent image to perform as your background for this page. However, I am unsure about the overlapping images so you could experiment and move them around the page in order to see where they look best on the page. You need to change your page numbers and add the letter ‘a’ in the word ‘ultimate’. I think in order to create even more consistency you could create something that starts on your front cover and is included on every page e.g. a red line along the top or the bottom of the pages. I also think to improve the overall look of the page; you could play around with different effects on the writing to give them a shadow. So the audience know that it is a weekly magazine you could have the issue number and also something like ‘in this weeks’ edition…’ under the title this will also fill the gap on the top right-hand-side.’

First draft of Contents Page.

This is my first draft of my contents page.
I have received feedback from a couple of people as to whether they like it or not, feedback will be posted on the next blog post.

Planning of front cover

This is my layout design for my front cover.
I am not happy with the photo quality and may change some of the photos as I need to retake them as I was not happy with how they came out.

Market Research

I asked a number of people what sort of things they would want in a music magazine and these were the most common answers.

Mood Board Picture Inspiration

I have created a mood board of just some of my favourite images from my chosen genre for my music magazine.
It took me quite a while to decide what genre I was going to pick for my magazine but I have chosen folk music. This is because the music and the people that create the music are always looking as though they are having fun and enjoying what they do.

Final Magazine Review

This is a transcript of what one of our media teachers said about our magazine front cover that we completed for our preliminary task. I was unable to find a way of uploading the recording.

"Okay I think it suits the formality of the magazine, good use of colours that reflect the school colours. What I would say is that there needs to be more sub-headings about what is going on in school. I think the 'Misbourne Mag' needs to be a little bit bigger. You could maybe have some lines seperating the three images at the top, really to emphasis that those are different photographs. You have a good range of different shots.. so you have a long shot, a close up and another long shot. Your puff doesnt really fit in with the colours, and maybe think about moving it over a bit or put it somewhere else, not sure. But I think the title does definately needs to be bigger".

Magazine Analysis

This is a photo taken of another school magazine. I like this magazine as it has a main image with people blurred in the picture so it has a small depth of field. I also like how there is not much writing on the image but there is information at the bottom of the front cover. I would like to do a similar idea to this for my magazine but to change the colours of the fonts.

Today's lesson.

Today our teacher has sent us a variety of magazine front covers to have a look to get some ideas.

Preliminary Task

I have been set my preliminary task which is to design a new school magazine front cover. I am working with Ella and Olivia and we have decided to use a year 11 student as well as a year 7 student as our models for the front cover. We are representing older students helping younger students with homework and using it as a mentoring scheme in order to make the year 7 transition from year 7 to 7 as easy as possible as the older students have been through everything they are about to. The year 7's are able to discuss their problems or issues they may be having from work to social.
